“Spring into style” they say, but what is the trend for spring 2017? My goodness, it’s confusing. Runway is showing a very bad version of the 80’s. Something crossed between bold prints, cutouts and graphic tees paired with leggings that got attacked by scissors. Perhaps 2017 is about making a bold statement. Whatever it is, we know how the right layering tricks for a look that “WOW’s”.
Spring in the Sierra’s is always a bit tricky. It seems winter is over, however we get the majority of snow fall in February and March. There’s no way you will find us in shear layers, shorts and UGG’s. This isn’t LA!! So where do we start?
Lip-gloss and hair! Bet you didn’t see that coming. Sometimes we forget, the small things count. I always feel so polished when I have lip-gloss on. I love a lippy that brings out the wine color in my scarf or soft pink in my blouse. I feel so put together when I’ve got on a fabulous lip color! As for the hair: by day 5 my hair is 90% dry shampoo and in a teased messy bun. (Have you tried Oribe dry shampoo at Posh Salon?) In between, I always have it styled: braids, curls, half up, you name it, but never just thrown up. Spend the extra 10 minutes to do your hair. Not for others, but for you. Force yourself to spend a little more time getting beautified. You’ll slowly find it will boost your inner glow.
Now, back to clothes! A trench coat is always a timeless piece to add into your closet. This spring is showing faux fur oversized jackets. If you find something you like make sure it is a fit and color you will wear again. I like my dollars to last seasons, and went for a black soft furry mid-coat.
This spring is showing light blue and tonal hues. Denim on denim is always an easy spring look that will keep you warm. I love throwing a black leather jacket over a chambray top and black ankle booties. I always go for comfort and can never have too many ankle booties. A high heel is how you always look best dressed. Denim skinnies and boyfriends are still in. Pair them with an oversized sweater, your new trench coat, or long vest. The distressed boyfriend is always a great look for spring. While denim will always be a staple in my closet, outerwear is moving more towards an outfit, not jeans and a top. When you look in magazines, don’t be surprised if you see matching everything. Pantsuits, or a dress with bold accessories and a coat, or a dressy top tucked into joggers are on the radar (with a heel).
The cold shoulder is in and is here to stay! You will see this look all spring and summer. If you like the cold shoulder and need help with the bra situation, Savvy has great options! The strapless adhesive lightweight bra has come a long way. Stop in and try our sample. We have a few options that I now call “my best friends.”
Springtime is all about layers in warm, light colors. I love a big, oatmeal colored turtleneck sweater over white skinnies. So far, my best purchase has been an ankle rain boot. My feet stay dry, and I’m not clunking around in my tall shaft boots. If you find yourself in love with a top, but can’t figure out what to wear on the bottom, bring it in!
